9:30 AM - 12:00 PMMiriyam Glazer, Rabbi and Emerita Professor of Literature at American Jewish University where she served as Chair of the Department of Literature, is the author, most recently, of Psalms of the Jewish Liturgy: A Guide to their Beauty, Power, and Meaning. Her prior books include Dancing on the Edge of the World: Jewish Stories of Faith, Inspiration and Love, and Dreaming the Actual: Poetry and Fiction of Israeli Women Writers. Editor of The Bedside Torah: Wisdom, Vision and Dreams by Rabbi Bradley Shavit Artson, Miriyam Glazer has published many essays on Jewish women writers, as well as pioneering the translation of Israeli women writers in her first book, Burning Air and a Clear Mind. A dedicated foodie, she co-authored Jewish Festival Cooking with her Tel Aviv-based sister, Phyllis Glazer.
Prof. Glazer has held fellowships from Ben Gurion University, UCLA, Brandeis University's Women's Institute, as well as the Institute for Citizens and Scholars. Prior to joining American Jewish University, she was Chair of the Department of English and American Literature at Ben Gurion University in Israel, where she taught for many years. She is joyfully married to Rabbi Anthony Elman, and the unutterably joyous grandmother of Theodore Schotz, the almost two-year-old son of her daughter Avigail Schotz.
