Brian and Melissa Tarsky's Brisket Recipe

Before I met Brian, I had an annual Hanukkah party with salad and latkes. I was not confident about cooking meat so just didn’t. The first year that Brian and I were dating, I threw the usual party, but Brian bought and made brisket in my small apartment in Brentwood. It was a hit! For years after that, we threw an increasingly large Hanukkah party with brisket, latkes, and salad.

Brisket Recipe

Ingredients
1 large can of Italian peeled tomatoes
1 package of Lipton Onion Soup mix
3 large russet potatoes cut into chunks
1 large onion
1 package of baby carrots
Kosher salt
Pepper
Garlic powder

Directions
Preheat oven to 350 degrees.

Trim brisket leaving a bit of fat. Season both sides with kosher salt, pepper, and garlic powder. Place the brisket in a foil roasting pan.

Add the remaining ingredients to the pan, cover with heavy-duty foil, and cook for 60 minutes. Lower oven to 275, and cook for 4-5 hours. Remove from oven, slice, and return to oven for 15-30 minutes.

The juice and veggies can be pureed to make a nice sauce.
