Update! BJE’s Annual Gala recognizes our own Sasha Dominguez together with other heads of Jewish schools in LA! For more information on the Out of the Box Gala, please click here.

On February 5, 2021, BJE will hold its annual Gala. This year, BJE will recognize Sasha Dominguez and celebrate heads of Jewish schools across Los Angeles who have worked tirelessly during this pandemic.

The BJE Out of the Box Gala will recognize the extraordinary work happening under the leadership of the directors of early childhood centers, part-time religious schools and day schools, and the money raised will enable BJE to continue to provide meaningful support to schools, educators, students and parents, particularly at a time when the needs created by the pandemic are profound.

Rather than attend the usual in-person event, ticket holders and sponsors will receive a delicious catered Shabbat meal from Pat’s to enjoy in the safety of their own homes. Heads of schools being recognized will also receive a meal for themselves and their households in appreciation of their leadership and dedication to our community. Special tributes will be shared with all the educators.

“It almost goes without saying that educators are often underappreciated, but I think most of us know that they are heroes among us – especially during these trying times, and it is our great pleasure to recognize and thank them,” said BJE Executive Director Gil Graff.

BJE is the only organization in Los Angeles wholly dedicated to supporting and enriching Jewish educational experiences, from early childhood through high school, across the full Jewish religious and cultural spectrum. To learn more about BJE’s Out of the Box Gala, please go to or contact Miriam Prum Hess at (323) 761-8334.

This school year promises to be meaningful and exciting, as we welcome our wonderful new Religious School Director, Sasha Dominguez (read more about her at the bottom of this page). Mishkon Tephilo's Religious School is committed to providing for your children’s educational needs. We have many outstanding programs planned for this year.

Our goal at Mishkon Tephilo’s Religious School is to provide student-centered Jewish education for each of our students, in a safe, warm and nurturing environment. Mishkon Tephilo is committed to a bold and active educational program, encompassing all ages pre-K through 7th grade, giving our students the tools to enhance their Jewish life experiences.

Our school curriculum focuses on three major areas – Hebrew, Tephila, and Judaic Studies – as well as Jewish music, art, cooking, special holiday programs, field trips, and multi-generational programming.

  • Hebrew is taught in Hebrew, Ivrit B’Ivrit, with an emphasis on the study of Jewish prayer and a conversational component. Each student focuses on reading, phonics, writing, grammar, and vocabulary.

  • Tephila – All grades work to master portions of our liturgy. Students learn about Jewish theology and the meaning of the prayers, as well as reading and chanting.

  • Judaic Studies focuses on Jewish identity, with the study of Jewish history, Israel, the calendar, the holidays, role models in the synagogue, menschlichkeit, Jews of Eastern Europe, and Jews of Sepharad.

We believe in instruction for all. We realize that we live in a world of differences and that students have unique learning styles and strengths. Mishkon Tephilo is sensitive to these challenges. In order to address a variety of student needs, we differentiate our program so every student can have a successful and meaningful experience in Jewish learning. If you know parents looking for a religious school, please invite them to call. We look forward to many learning opportunities together.

School started Wednesday, September 9, 2020, and ends on Saturday, May 8, 2021.
