At Mishkon Tephilo, our school mission is to have students discover and encounter Judaism as a holistic way of life that can weigh in on the meaningful choices and decisions we make. We strive to engage our children from their earliest days through preparing them to go off to college, cultivating Jews with a strong sense of identity and a moral sense of responsibility toward themselves, the community, and the world at large. We fulfill our mission with engaging questions and ideas, song and prayer, art and dance, laughter and joy, field trips, and dialogues—all the while building warm friendships and memories.

Together, we will explore:

  • Values, ethics, and moral issues with a Jewish voice
  • Provide our children with meaningful, joyful experiences in the practice of Jewish ceremonies, holidays, lifecycle customs, laws, rituals, and observances familiar at home, synagogue, and in the community
  • Introduce our children to the Hebrew language of both the siddur (prayer book) as well as modern Hebrew. We want our children to inherit Hebrew as a living language to feel comfortable participating in both synagogue T'fillah (prayer service) and have the foundation to understand Hebrew as it is spoken today
  • We live by the ethic Kol Yisrael are'vim zeh la'zeh / All Jewish fates are linked together to inspire concern, affection, kinship, and sense of responsibility toward Jews here and everywhere in the world, and particularly toward the Jewish homeland, the State of Israel, as extended members of our community
  • Give students a secure place where they can explore, challenge, discover, and develop their Jewish identities and personal relationship with God
  • Foster the Jewish values of tzedakah (righteous acts) and gemilut chasadim (acts of loving-kindness) through a curriculum of active caring
  • We believe the intellectual development that happens after Bar/Bat Mitzvah is some of the most important in our lives, so we encourage all students to continue their Jewish learning and engagement until they graduate from school. We look forward to facilitating programs specifically for high-schoolers
